How to choose the plant

First of all, it is important to choose the right plant to cut from. This must have long young branches not yet lignified therefore still with the green branch.

The cut will be made below a knot. By node we mean that point where a new branch is born and from which the roots will develop.

In addition, a very important aspect to take into account will be the soil in which the cut branch will have to root. It must be soft, ventilated, draining and well fertilized. So let's not skimp and choose quality.

If the temperatures are still too high, the pot should not be left in the sun, but placed in a shaded area. Otherwise there is a risk that the heat causes the soil to dry up quickly, which will no longer be sufficiently humid to favor rooting. We then place the new pots in a sheltered area. It will also be great to protect them from the winter cold.

Let's get a gardening shears and sterilize the blades, we can do it with alcohol or by heating them with a flame. This is to avoid infecting what is a real wound for the plant.

Then we choose the right place to cut, below the knot and cut with an oblique cut.

We also remove the leaves that are directly above the cut.

Always with the sterilized blade we lightly shell a small portion of the branch, the one that will be buried and from which the new roots will arise. This serves to widen the rooting surface. A little will be enough, even just 1 cm.

We are ready to bury the cutting

Now is the time to plant the future rose plant. With the help of a stick we make a hole in the center of the soil and position the branch. We close and lightly press the earth all around in order to make the plant stable. Now all that remains is to wait.

We wet on dry soil. There is no need to fertilize until the roots are formed.

Here in the spring we will have many beautiful vases of roses at no cost but which will give much more satisfaction as the result of our commitment.
