THELily island was at the center of the chronicles of the whole world for the sad shipwreck of the Costa Concordia, but there is also more to tell about this beautiful island of the Tuscan Archipelago. A less obvious monster than Concord, but equally atrocious: it is poaching, made of traps and instruments of torture for small animals that are ruthlessly killed all year round.

Thus, unfortunate wild rabbits, pride and "delicacy" of the island's culinary tradition, come brutally killed, strangled by metal nooses, little birds and small rodents are killed by the so-called "Crushes", traps made from large stones raised by a precarious support, and, finally, many passerines find their death in the prey baits. All this is not the result of fantasy, but what really happens on the island.

They had announced it and kept their promise: the brutal poaching on the island of Giglio was filmed and well documented by a group of 20 volunteers, coordinated by Piero Liberati, founder of Vallevegan, who, slipping between the pyres and the meanders of the woods, spent on the island, self financing and self organizing, night and day to reveal, in addition to Concordia, the atrocities, to try to save as many creatures as possible, to combat in a practical way the phenomenon of wild rabbit hunting, to passerines and mouflons, in the middle of National park of the Tuscan Archipelago.

Park where, over the years, the the situation has also worsened considerably, given that, if until recently there were about a hundred traps a day, it has gone to at least 300, including cappi, crushes and sep. To get an idea of the phenomenon, just think that within 4 days of activity on the school camp, aimed at forming new specialized volunteers, 1500 laces for rabbits have been found, mainly around vegetable gardens, 120 laces for passerines and rodents, some laces for mouflons, Sep for birds and rat poison. For a total of over a thousand defused traps.

For Piero Liberati and the volunteers behind this shocking situation, with traps in sight even from the street, there is certainly the inertia of the institutions and of those who do not has ever supported the anti-poaching activity, including the former president Mario Tozzi, the famous geologist. Luckily, the video also documents some good episodes, such as release of some rabbits that ended up in traps who, although in a panic, had not run away and ended up choking. The volunteers, after having immobilized them, managed to cut the nooses and set them free again. Unfortunately, however, there was no happy ending for many other pets, who, deceived by despicable beings, went against a horrible death.
