It is not known if it was the plastic that killed, but it is still a death not due to natural causes. The sperm whale found between Lascari and Cefalù had cuts on its side, so according to an initial reconstruction, it would have been injured by a boat or hit by the propellers of a boat.
“What you see in the photos is a young sperm whale of just 6 years found dead yesterday on the beach of Cefalu. A lot of plastic was found in his stomach. We do not know if he died for this, but we cannot pretend that nothing is happening: there are 5 sperm whales beached in the last 5 months, the sea is sending us a cry of alarm, a desperate SOS. Our sea and the wonderful animals that inhabit it are in danger and are asking us for help ”, comments Greenpeace.
Then pushed by the current, the pink sperm whale arrived at the beach where it was sighted by local residents. But usually in the Palermo area, these sightings are unusual, but unfortunately it is not the first time that we talk about beached sperm whales. How can we forget the dead one because he had 30 kilos of waste in the stomach? And the one who had a fetus in his belly, which also died from pollution?
Now this new finding places once again the emphasis on the dangers faced by marine animals: from plastic to the problem of boats that often hit them, causing their death.
