They were suppressed together, because after having lived their whole life in symbiosis, one would have suffered too much from the loss of the other. So the Los Angeles Zoo made this decision for an elderly pair of lions.

Their images are very tender. Hubert and Kalisa, two lions born and raised in captivity for six years, were inseparable companions. In that captivity they had been able to derive only one benefit, that of being together and spending time together. Lions in captivity live for a maximum of 17 years, the couple was over 21 and began to have physical imbalances. Wasting, little appetite, reduced mobility, so the zoo vets decided to kill the two lions.

Hubert was born in Chicago at Lincoln Park Zoo while Kalisa was from Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo and they met when they were transferred to the Los Angeles Zoo in 2014.

“Two charismatic lions who immediately became a steady couple and never separated. There was always attention to each other, ”explains Beth Schaefer, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Zoo.

It was often said that where Kalisa was, there was also Hubert. Two lions who perhaps all their lives had dreamed of living their love in the forest, away from prying eyes. And also about their death, he unfortunately decided the human being. We are left with these sweet images of pure and boundless love.
