The NGO RESQ Wildlife Team, together with the Maharashtra Forestry Department, immediately intervened when some people reported a wild cat just one month old, alone in a field near Alandi, a town in the Pune district of India.
It was a rusty puppy cat, a really small wild cat species, just think that an adult weighs just over a kilo.
The goal of the volunteers, fortunately achieved, was to have his mother find him who was surely still around, perhaps frightened by the presence of men.
The team of volunteers, after having visited the kitten to make sure that he was okay, placed him safely in a folding pen and installed a camera right in front of him, so as to monitor the situation and intervene if the cat was not. was found promptly by the mother.
The first 24 maximum 48 hours are decisive in this sense, after this time, in fact, the hope of reunification between mother and child becomes much more difficult.
RESQ veterinarian Dr Shardul Salvi said:
The kitten was fit and active and we were hoping it would make enough noise to be located by its mother.
About five hours later, the team watched the mom come looking for her kitten, grab it, and disappear into the woods.
A story with a happy ending, therefore, thanks to the commitment of the volunteers and the collaboration of the locals, initially frightened because they thought it was a leopard cub.
