New bear sighted in Trentino, while climbing a balcony at night. Will he be hunted and captured as M49?

There is a new bear in Trentino, last night in Calliano he was spotted walking around the town and climbing onto a balcony. We hope you stay free

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

A few days after the capture of M49, two new bears have been sighted in Trentino and Piedmont. We hope they don't get hunted too.

The acrobat bear was nicknamed the one spotted yesterday in the late evening in Calliano, a town in the province of Trento. A medium sized brown bear not only did he wander through the deserted streets but he actually was perched on a balcony, probably looking for food.

Last night between 23pm and midnight, a medium-sized brown bear roamed the town of Calliano. Perhaps disoriented and probably hungry, the animal climbed onto a balcony on the first floor but when he heard the shouting and shouting of the people he immediately ran away in fear.

Some videos that film it as he climbs and then descends from the balcony, after being discovered, they are making the rounds of the web.

In the car with the illuminated headlights was the mayor of Calliano, Lorenzo Conci, who confirmed the news of the sighting of the bear by declaring:

“It's really a strange period in which just about everything happens… An acrobat bear in the center of Calliano. Seen less than a meter away… I was in the car ”.

Never in Calliano and in the whole of eastern Trentino had a bear been sighted (with the exception of M49 which, however, had been brought to these areas by man). All the bears of Trentino live in the western part of the region and are confined there thanks to two barriers, one natural, the Adige river and the other artificial, the A22 motorway.

Captured the M49 bear: Papillon's escape to freedom is over

The assumptions about who this animal is and where it comes from are different. There are those who thought it was M49 managed to escape again, a hypothesis denied by the forestry, according to what the mayor of Calliano said.

The most likely thing is that it is a bear that somehow managed to reach the eastern part of the region, perhaps passing through the deserted road these days and crossing the Adige at some point.

Now the bear has escaped into the woods above the town, but in Calliano the amazement (as well as the fear) remains.

Spotted in Piedmont M29

Meanwhile in a whole other area, in Val D'Ossola, in recent days has been sighted another bear, the M29, whose movements are now monitored with camera traps. This specimen comes from Switzerland where it has been under observation for three years, and has never done much damage.

“In Val D'Ossola the presence of these animals is a relative novelty. Precisely for this reason the sighting of M29 is important, it must not alarm and we cannot expect that there is the spread of electrified fences that there is in our country, but it is good that precautions are taken not to induce the bear into wrong behaviors ”Explained to Repubblica Luca Pedrotti, biologist of the large carnivore sector of the autonomous province of Trento.

What will be the fate of the bears?

But now we inevitably ask ourselves: What fate will befall these bears whose only fault is that of getting too close to man?  Often, as we have also seen in the case of M49, these animals are hunted down, hunted and captured even if they have not caused any damage and, we recall, the danger of bears has never been scientifically proven.

Furthermore, as stated by Gian Marco Prampolini, President of LEAL, the Antivivisectionist League,
regarding the capture of M49:

"We would have expected that Maurizio Fugatti (President of the Autonomous Province of Trento) and the PAT were focused on containing the spread of the virus and that they had at least temporarily slowed down the hunt for bears whose capture is only evidence of unprepared management and failing in the relationship of peaceful coexistence with the local fauna ".

And, instead, among the priorities of Phase 2 there was, incredibly, also that of restarting the hunt, And not just the bears.

Phase 2 also starts hunting again: in full emergency, the Regions think about who kills animals
