Holidays in the mountains: clean air, silence, breathtaking landscapes and excursions. But also the possibility of running into the wildlife, at the peak of the reproductive phase during the summer period. But what should you do if during a walk in the woods you come across a lonely, defenseless and abandoned puppy? ENPA warns all mountain patrons: before intervening, the situation must be evaluated very carefully because most of the time the lonely puppies have not been abandoned, as it might seem to the inexperienced.

Their mother, in fact, may be around looking for food and taking him would mean making him really an orphan. So what should be done in these cases? First of all it is necessary contact the nearest section of the Enpa and the competent authorities in the field of wildlife (State Forestry Corps and Provincial Police) to receive advice and indications. Absolutely wrong to touch the puppy, even if irresistibly tender: almost all mammals recognize their children by smell and a possible contact could destroy the olfactory "signature".

As regards the then, if found on the ground, they always go taken and placed in a specially perforated box, feeding them with a few drops of goat milk approximately every 2 hours. When the sun sets, an attempt can be made to bring the foundling back to the immediate vicinity of the place where it was found and to the top. There's a good chance the bat moms will come back for him.

If you were to come across a young bird hopping here and there with his eyes open, it is not a matter of a small fallen from the nest, but of a young man who is simply discovering the world, followed at a distance by his parent. In this situation it is better not to intervene or, at most, the bird can be moved within 15 20-meters, hiding it in a hedge. Since this is not always possible in the city, you should contact the'Enpa or the nearest fauna recovery center.

In the case of swallows, swifts, house martins and featherless specimens or with closed eyes, forget what has been said up to now: the chicks in these conditions must always be taken.

Finally, here are the last tricks: boxes instead of cages, no to bread, milk and eggs and yes to meat, never do it yourself. Intervention, care, growth and release of a wild animal is the task of expert people and highly specialized structures.

And now trekking poles in hand and rucksack, all to observe the wild nature.
