Some countries, like Australia, are opposing whaling, while Japan just said 'no' to the creation of a marine reserve to protect these wonderful animals.
Japan and other pro-whaling nations have voted against plans to create a protected area for whales, dolphins and other marine animals in need of protection. In Japan and beyond, whaling is big business.
The proposal was rejected during the biennial meeting of the International Whaling Commission, because the share of 75% of votes in favor was not reached.
The sanctuary of whales and dolphins should have been born in the South Atlantic but evidently there are still many nations directly or indirectly interested in whaling and they rely on each other even if their geographical location is far from the Atlantic.

Once again, much to the chagrin of the whale defenders, the proposal to create a marine reserve dedicated to them was rejected. The hope is that the International Whaling Commission will at least consider the problem of whaling in Japan to be able to stop the killing.
