Kaavan was the loneliest elephant in the world, but in the Cambodian sanctuary that welcomed him he has already found a friend.
Kaavan used to be considered the loneliest elephant in the world, but now he is finally no longer so. After years of protests, mobilizations and the precious support of the singer Cher, a couple of days ago the animal originally from Sri Lanka reached the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary, where he will be able to live in freedom and redeem himself from the more than 35 years spent in captivity in a zoo in Islamabad.
In his new home in Cambodia, he came into contact with a fellow man for the first time in many years and the two already seem to have made friends. Fortunately, this emotional moment was immortalized and filmed. At the beginning of the video we see the elephant playing happily as a child would in a playground. Then comes the surprise: the encounter with another elephant from the sanctuary. We see the two pachyderms, one intrigued, approaching and greeting each other with their trunks.
The story of Kaavan, locked up for over three decades in a zoo in Pakistan, had traveled around the world and touched the hearts of many people, including the singer Cher who mobilized to restore him to freedom. And when the elephant arrived in Cambodia, the artist was found in the sanctuary to welcome him with open arms.
“My wishes have finally come true. We have counted down to this moment and dreamed of it for so long and finally seeing Kaavan being transported out of the zoo [in Islamabad] will stay with us forever, ”Cher said in a statement thanking her charity Free the. Wild.
