Given the delicate situation of bears in Trentino, #Stopcasteller activists are launching an interactive map to protect the huge mammals that populate the region.

The issue of bears in the Trentino Alto-Adige region is more complex than it might seem and if Giulia Zanotelli, Councilor for Agriculture, Forestry, Hunting and Fishing of the Autonomous Province of Trento has recently announced that "any further specimens that put at risk public safety will be removed by culling, ”#Stopcasteller activists proposed as a counter response a project to limit the raids of bears in city centers that does not harm large carnivores in any way.

The initiative provided the creation of an interactive map where to report the "bear-attracting bins" that is, those bins that have not been designed to withstand the attacks of bears and that are easily opened by the animal in search of food.

Many bins considered safe are present in Andalo, Molveno, Dimaro and Fai della Paganella, ma however, they are lacking in municipalities where the presence of bears is high. Here, wet bins alternate with others that can be targeted by bears who thus get used to getting closer and closer to humans, encouraged by the food waste that they manage to obtain too easily.

The map, which you can find at this link, will be updated regularly especially thanks to the reports of citizens and tourists who can send photos and the exact location of the offending dumpster to bidoniproblematici@gmail.com, thus helping activists to monitor the project and the its course. In western Trentino, as you can see from the map, there are so many problematic bins.

What matters most to the #Stopcasteller activists is to demonstrate that so far the initiatives taken by the provincial government that should have guaranteed the well-being of bears and at the same time the safety of citizens have not borne any fruit other than a wrong management of the problem.

We want to dismantle the lies of the Giunta Fugatti about everything that has not been and is not yet done in terms of prevention. How? By mapping all the waste bins that in the province of Trento encourage bears in search of food to approach inhabited centers!
