In Arizona pet shops can no longer sell dogs and cats from farms and the pet trade, but will have to host specimens from shelters and by non-profit organizations. A judge in Phoenix ruled it.
The ruling supports an order in this regard already approved in 2013. In Arizona, those in favor of adoptions to combat stray dogs see this decision as a first step forward to make people understand that animals found in kennels and catteries have the right to a home and a family like pets for sale at stellar prices from breeders.
Phoenix is one of about 60 cities in the United States that have considered implementing such a law. David Campbell, US District Court Judge, confirmed what was established two years ago.
This is a great victory in the opinion of the Humane Society of the United States which has fought tirelessly to bring about the application of the law. Maureen Beyers, attorney for the Humane Society, said:
“The ruling is a great victory not only for the city of Phoenix but for the Humane Society itself. We apply this law for combat the trade in animals bred specifically for sale, reduce the cases of euthanasia and the crowding of kennels and shelters ".
This initiative will likely lead several people to reconsider their willingness to buy a purebred dog from a breeding in favor of the animals of kennels and catteries that really need a home.
