Is called 480 otis and is currently the most acclaimed bear in all of Alaska. The reason? The animal has earned the coveted title of the fattest bear of the year, an initiative launched by Katmai National Park and Preserve. And for Otis it is not the first victory, but the fourth. Indeed, Era has already won this title in 2014, 2016 and 2017. And this year too the brown bear - now a veteran - has beaten the other 11 specimens entered in the Fat Bear Week race, obtaining 6000 votes. Otis is 25 years old and this year he recently came to weigh over 450 pounds.

"The burly belly patriarch persevered in pulverizing the Baron of Beardonkadonk in the final match," the park staff announced on Twitter, adding at the time of the winner's announcement the champion was still taming.

Don’t let 812’s juvenescence juke you, his moxie might move him on in Monday’s matchup while 480 Otis patiently pursues pabulum to pad his paunch. Will 812’s youthful zeal transcend 480’s tranquil technique?

The bizarre competition was set up to reward the bears who worked hard (by eating) to survive during the winter hibernation. Brown bears living within Katmai Park appear thin during the summer months, but before winter, they congregate at the Brooks River and feed on salmon.

This species can gain up to around 2 kilos per day and adult males can reach as much as 540 kilos. And Otis has really put a lot of effort into being crowned the fattest bear of the year again and is officially ready for his hibernation!
