The silence of Minister Sergio Costa about the new capture of the M49 bear he first renamed Papillon was almost deafening last Monday. Many had asked for his intervention in favor of the animal once again locked up in the enclosure of Castellar together with two other bears, including Gaia. And on the matter the minister exposes himself today with a post on his Facebook profile in which he declares that he has ordered an inspection to the CITES department of the Carabinieri and to Ispra in the "prison" the three specimens of brown bear are held to accurately assess the conditions in which animals live.
Furthermore, the Minister, who reminds everyone how his powers are limited in the face of ordinances of Regions with special autonomy, sent "a letter for the regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Lombardy to extend the" Life Ursus "project also in their territories so as to be able to distribute the Trentino bears in a larger suitable environment ":

Sergio Costa then wanted to reiterate his opposition to the "senseless fury towards this poor bear, which has the sole fault of being a bear", concluding peremptorily:
I'm with Papillon, and everyone should be outraged by what's happening. A bear, who has never hurt anyone, has never attacked anyone, cannot and must not be treated like a criminal to be kept in prison.
