The selection hunt for male roe deer in Liguria is underway: a bloodbath in which 1256 animals can be killed. The hunt that began on June 1st will continue until July 13th and then resume from August 15th to September 30th.

As every year, roe deer hunting returns with a single manual loading rifle equipped with a rifle scope. According to Enpa Savona, the number of animals that can be killed exceeds one thousand. A massacre that "in any case will have no influence on the alleged damage to crops".
"All this will happen with all due respect to some agricultural and peasant organizations which, absurdly, continue to remain allies of the hunters demanding the use of guns to solve the problem, while it is clear that they are the problem and not the solution, having freed the last century roe deer and wild boar to make them grow, as happened later ”, writes Enpa Savona in a press release.
According to the Liguria Region there would be an overcrowding of roe deer and the only solution is to make a selected hunt every year. Animal protection is opposed and speaks of a very different situation.
"Throughout the summer, selecontrollers armed with rifles with useful ranges of over half a kilometer, are authorized to fire deadly bullets in woods where visibility is a few tens of meters due to the thick foliage, and even on weekdays, such as on Thursdays and, above all, on Saturdays (in addition to Monday), in which citizens evidently considered “b” series as hikers, bikers and tourists, would love to walk without danger ”, he continues.
The solution? Certainly not hunting, but, says Enpa, "a correct management of wildlife through the identification and study of ecological and effective methods in the containment of presumed redundant species, such as wild boar, fallow deer and roe deer".
