It carried more than a thousand sheep, but then that truck overturned killing about 300. It happens in China. From here, in fact, a video shot in Quyang county in Hebei province on 20 March last is going around the world, showing a livestock semi-trailer overturning on an evidently slippery road surface.

In another clip, a police officer is seen trying to lead the sheep to the side of the road. According to reports, a crane was then used to clear a lane for vehicles and help rescuers transport the sheep.

Three hundred sheep were killed in that accident, while there would be no man injured. The road was slippery with snow, but the trailer was traveling at high speed and the driver lost control.

Transporting livestock, in conditions verging on the impossible, is an odyssey that seems to have no end. This tragedy that took place in China is added to a whole series of dramatic accidents, events with a criminal ending, confirming the fact that it is no longer possible to continue transporting animals by truck or by sea as if they were things, without a minimum of dignity.

It is a fact that every year there are tragic accidents in which hundreds of animals lose their lives, in the majority of cases destined for slaughter. A few months have passed, for example, since the tragedy that occurred at sea in southwestern Japan, which saw the death of dozens of people and about 6 cows that were on board a ship to be exported to China, as well as only a few day ago the misfortune of over 800 cattle stranded at sea for two months ended and which, among other things, ended with the killing.

Although these sad news stories continue to repeat themselves at a hallucinating rate, animals continue to be tortured and transported in unacceptable conditions, as if they did not have the right to be considered sentient beings.
