A 66-year-old beekeeper would have died attacked by several swarms of bees, despite the protective suit he wore to protect himself from insects. It happened late yesterday morning, April 18, in Rancitella di Urbino.

The victim's body, already dead for a few hours, was found lying on the hives by his wife and son, frightened by his prolonged absence from home. Firefighters and law enforcement officers were immediately alerted and, having reached the scene of the accident, they proceeded to free the beekeeper's body from the fury of the bees. One of the firefighters was repeatedly stung by bees in the eye and taken to hospital.

According to the first reconstructions, the man would have had an illness (perhaps a heart attack) or more likely he would have lost his balance going to fall right on the hives and causing the anger of the bees that killed him. In fact, according to what his wife said, the beekeeper had gone there to cut some unsafe branches that hung right on the hives.

In normal cases, a single bee sting does not cause serious damage: the area affected by the sting swells and becomes red, sore or itchy, but don't worry. This is a normal allergic reaction, which resolves within a few hours, at most a couple of days.

In the case of the beekeeper we told you about, however, the amount of stings inflicted by the bees was such that it caused an anaphylactic shock. Since the man was alone at the time of the attack and was not rescued in a timely manner, the severe allergic reaction resulted in death.
