An unusual fishing. It's what Pennsylvania gynecologist Karen Sciascia and Seth McLean did while fishing along the Big Hole River in southwestern Montana when they spotted a moose trying to cross the watercourse. But she wasn't alone.

The river was swollen and flowed fast. The animal was trying to stay afloat. “We were watching this adult female pacing back and forth and we didn't see her baby until we got close to it. The mother kept pushing it, the current was fast enough “, says the gynecologist.

At a certain point the mother managed to gain the bank, followed by the baby. But, struck by the current, the baby elk was blown away. “We have lost sight of the little one. He was being pushed by the river into the valley. He was too young to fight the current ”, continues Sciascia. Mom, meanwhile, she watched the river carry away her puppy from the bank. The woman, then, with the help of the guide, made her boat change course and set out in desperate search for the moose at the mercy of the river.

It wasn't easy to spot him, but in the end they found him floundering to save himself. He had his little nose just above the water, but luckily Sciascia was able to grab him by the front legs and pick him up from the river. A photo captures the magical moment in which the puppy, exhausted and drenched, is in the arms of his savior, that he could feel his heart beating fast with his hand. McLean then drove the raft against the current to reach his mother, who, as soon as she heard the call of her son, appeared on the shore from the vegetation.
