Animals in the ward? In Tuscany it will be possible being able to receive a visit from your pet - dog, cat or other - when you are hospitalized, and therefore in conditions of physical and emotional fragility. However, the visits must take place in compliance with the health and environmental needs, the conditions of the other hospitalized patients and the welfare of the animals.
For this reason, the Region has launched special "Guidelines for the access of pets visiting patients in accredited public and private health facilities and hospitals", approved yesterday with a council resolution, explains the region.
They refer to various laws, both national and regional, in which the care value of the emotional relationship between the patient and their pet, support activities such as pet therapy are requested, health structures are invited to facilitate contact of patients, the elderly and children in particular, with their pet.
What are the rules dictated by Tuscany? The animals must be those who live in the families of patients admitted to health facilities. And they must be registered in the pet registry. Their access to the hospital will be allowed according to the procedures indicated by the health management, which will have to govern it with a specific internal regulation.
Healthcare professionals will have to evaluate the compatibility of the patients' state of health, and therefore the benefits deriving from the presence of the pet. The access request must be presented to the Operating Unit by the patient himselfor from a family member. In each operating unit, one animal will be admitted at a time, with all the appropriate supports (collars, harnesses, leash, availability of a muzzle, etc.).
A representative will show the route from follow and the room where the meeting can take place. A multidisciplinary pool of adequately trained operators must be created in each healthcare company. In this way the presence of the animal will help the patient to overcome difficulties due to your condition.
