When nature decides to rebel against man's mistreatment it does not spare even those who, with these atrocities, have nothing to do with it and - indeed - are often a victim of them: and so it happens that, in addition to overwhelming innocent human lives, to fall into the fury of Mother Earth are also the animals, as happened to the Saponara (Messina) dog shelter, overwhelmed by a landslide during the last one .

The water laden with debris and the remains of buildings and houses, in fact caused the collapse of a ridge above which there was the refuge cared for by the volunteers of theEnvironmental Guard Association, which housed approx 15 dogs. Unfortunately, 3 animals have already been found dead, while volunteers are working to clean up the area and extract the poor animals from the mud. Luckily Giovanni Vicari, one of the people who took care of the kennel, had managed to open the doors of the shelter just before the stream came to them, allowing several dogs to escape and get to safety. Others, however, did not want to abandon their kennels and, in the incessant rain, it was impossible to take them away by force.

Some dogs, however, in the days following the dramatic episode, began to return to their home (which no longer exists), while others reappeared thanks to the commitment of the volunteers of the LIDA di Patti, as he writes Gea Press: these are two hunting dogs, abandoned long ago, and a "stray old lady".

In the meantime, however, come on Facebook an appeal as sad as it is dramatic appears: in fact, it seems that in the place where the refuge once stood they can hear themselves now cries and moans of buried dogs among the debris and mud. The appeal for the people of Messina is to go there and help in excavations, to try to save these poor animals. There they will find Giovanni Vicari, who has been working continuously for days to clean up the area where the refuge was located just a week ago. Same fate, but with a fortunately different ending for the kennel managed by National Dog Defense League a Soverato (CZ), in Calabria, another region affected by floods of the past few days. The road leading to the refuge had in fact been swept away by mud, but the local manager of the League, Serena Voices, managed to reach the place through another path, much longer, finding herself in front of an unexpected surprise: all about 100 dogs guests of the facility were still there, safe and sound.

The problem now remains to clean the refuge from the enormous quantities of mud and, above all, to find a solution for the access road, now unusable. In short, there is a risk that these dogs remain isolated and that it becomes seriously difficult to bring food and tools to fix the conditions in which the structure is located.

Same problem a Catanzaro, where theAnima Randagia Association launches an appeal to find adoptions or stalls for their 20 dogs, as the road to get to the shelter is totally impracticable: "Our dogs are fine - says the President Francesca Console - the pits are not flooded, but we cannot spend the winter with this very high risk ”. Reception in other shelters and adoptions are therefore the only possible solutions to guarantee the survival of these animals (info: 329 40 92 406 - darsha@tin.com - Presidente@animarandagia.org).

A disaster that, in addition to devastating the shelters, also involved grazing animals and wildlife. Deaths that are added to those of the poor people overwhelmed by the violence of a tragedy which, as always, could have been avoided.
