A beautiful mother bear was photographed by two park rangers in the Abruzzo National Park. This is the first time this has happened

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

She was walking with her puppies in the heart of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. A beautiful mother bear was noticed by two park rangers who did not believe their eyes: it is the first time that a bear with 4 cubs has been observed in the Park area.

Having met this specimen of Marsican brown bear together with the little ones it is an exceptional event to say the least. The animals in recent days have been noticed by two Park rangers who have taken these photos during their shift.

In the rest of Europe, similar events are also very rare. From what appears in the annals of the Abruzzo National Park, it is the first time that a she-bear with 4 cubs has been sighted.

"This event, certainly exceptional - declared the director of the Park Luciano Sammarone - is the best testimony that the territory of the Park has everything it takes to support the vitality of the population of Marsican brown bear. It confirms how important scientific research is in contributing to increasing knowledge and creating an indispensable basis for management choices that are also useful for protection. The awareness remains that the challenge for the conservation of this unique species is played outside the boundaries of the Park, where unfortunately the dangers, especially of anthropogenic origin, are still too many and require a coordinated effort between all the subjects present, institutions and economic operators in primis ".

According to the authorities, in fact, it is difficult to imagine that the bear can and should remain inside the Park, especially in the light of results like this one that confirm the vitality demonstrated by the animal population.

“The presence documented by the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise of a mother bear with 4 cubs in its territory is excellent news for the conservation of the Marsican brown bear in the central Apennines. It is an extraordinary event that gives credit to the work carried out in recent years by the protected areas of Abruzzo to protect a species at risk of extinction and confirms the need to implement more effective conservation measures in the area where the bear is present "said Antonio Nicoletti, National Manager of Protected Areas and Biodiversity of Legambiente.

Just a few days ago, on the occasion of the European day of parks, the association reiterated the need to reach the goal of 30% of legally protected areas by 2030. Doing so would create a large ecological network useful to protect the Marsican brown bear, but also other endangered species.

Bears these days seem to want the limelight, as demonstrated by the adventure of little Alessandro who, during a walk in the Dolomites, came across a beautiful specimen of brown bear, which suddenly appeared behind a bush.

The bear appears behind a child in Trentino: Alessandro behaves perfectly (and everything is fine)

Wonderful creatures that deserve to be protected!
