Everyone is crazy about the newborn koala after the fires in Australia, but no one says it's in a zoo

A birth is always a moment of joy, even if it leaves a bad taste in the mouth, because this baby koala was born in a zoo.

The photo of Ash, the baby koala born after the fires that devastated Australia went around the world. A birth is always a moment of joy, even if it leaves a bad taste in the mouth, because this baby koala was born in a zoo.

"We have a very important announcement to make: here is the first koala born in the park after the tragic fires," writes the Australian Reptile Park which is shown with a video on Facebook while it is in the arms of a member of the zoo staff.

FIRST KOALA JOEY OF THE SEASON!

We have a very special announcement… Our very first koala of the season has popped out of Mums pouch to say hello! ?Keepers have decided to name her Ash! Ash is the first koala born at the park since the tragic Australian bushfires and is a sign of hope for the future of Australia’s native wildlife.

In recent months, we have talked many times about koalas, kangaroos, wombats and many other animals that have died due to the devastating fires that have destroyed Australia. A million animals are gone, as well as hectares and hectares of biodiversity. Fortunately, many others have made it, thanks to wildlife recovery centers, which are quite distinct from the Australian Reptile Park. The centers, in fact, after having treated the animals, especially those left orphaned, then return to freedom, in this zoo instead they are not only born in captivity, but will remain there all their lives.

"It is a symbol of hope for the future of Australian wildlife," the park keepers write again on Facebook.

But again, as much as the birth may cheer, the baby koala is not the hope for the future of wildlife, but in fact a tourist attraction inside a zoo. And we, we have always said, are convinced that animal welfare exists only in their natural habitat. Australia is breathing again, trees are growing, animals are calmer and who knows how many births there have been in nature. Here's why Ash's birth is half good news: we wished he were free.
