It is yet another case of animal abuse, this time in Mondovì, in the province of Cuneo, where an over-sixty year old kept three dogs tied with a short chain>, which resulted in some evident lacerations to the neck of the animals.
The man's behavior, however, did not go unnoticed and it was convicted by the Supreme Court to a fine of 5000 €. The same amount established by the Court of Mondovì in the first instance on May 13, 2010. The man, however, presented an appeal to the Supreme Court which expressed itself yesterday confirming the sanction, highlighting how "following an inspection it was ascertained that the three dogs were tied short to the chain so as to present abrasions to the neck, that the only shelter from the elements was constituted by a tractor shovel ".
But there is more: the Third Criminal Section of the Court of Cassation, with sentence no. 26368, despite the man trying to defend himself by claiming that he had left the dogs in that state because physically unable to take care of them, stressed that "not there was a need to keep them in the chain, a behavior that had shown how much the owner had "cruel, without reason, on animals" and therefore - in addition to the fine, the over sixty year old will have to also pay court costs e pay an additional 1000 euros for wasting time on justice.
“A fair sentence, because keeping a dog tied up like that is barbaric - he commented Massimo Pearl, one of the most famous dog trainers in the world - The animal, unable to move, becomes more aggressive, moreover, it can be easily neutralized, if the goal is to keep strangers away ".
And actually the use of the chain for the animal represents a strong stress that deprives it of the possibility of interacting correctly with the environment that surrounds it.
“Once again the Supreme Court ruled with wisdom and full observance of the letter and spirit of the law. - he said Carla Rocchi, national president of ENPA - With judgments like this, the Supreme Court adds another piece to a sensitive, enlightened and correct jurisprudence that places our country at the forefront with regard to animal protection legislation and the resulting application " .

An important sentence above all because it will represent a great precedent that we hope will discourage more and more the use of the chain.
