Viareggio, a seaside resort in Tuscany, will not be famous from now only for its splendid carnival, but also for being a truly pet-friendly city that aims to increase the protection and welfare of animals throughout its territory thanks to the joint action the Department, the police and the employees of the ASL.

After 15 years, in fact, the new regulation of the Municipality has finally entered into force very recently, which allows all pets to free access to all public and commercial establishments, as well as to offices and places open to the public, including cemeteries, e on all means of public and private transport operating on the territory of the Municipality. It will obviously be the owner's responsibility to lead the dogs on a leash, collect their droppings and monitor them.
Green light therefore also to the beaches of the coast and the sandy shore, where families with dogs or cats on a leash can spend more time together outdoors.
The regulation also provides for the redevelopment of dog walking areas of Viareggio which are located in the Pineta di Ponente, in Varigliano in via VIII marzo, in Torre del Lago near the Ferracci Stadium and in the Migliarina area and which are available to all dogs and their owners, as long as they are interested of their decorum, following good civic standards.
The Municipality of Viareggio was keen to underline that its commitment also includes give precedence to circuses without animals who intend to perform in the territory, it being understood that those with animals (unfortunately) will not be prohibited, but still allowed after checking the legal authorizations. A half victory on this front e a missed opportunity to really stand out as a city that loves all animals.
