At IKEA there is a new surprise and it is much more adorable than DIY assemble beds and wardrobes. The Swedish furniture giant has decided to help make its customers understand that there is one essential thing to fill their homes with: a pet looking for a family.

How? By promoting adoption in its stores, thanks to life-size hardbacks, of homeless cats and dogs, placed on sofas, rugs and bunk beds. Each shape put on display is in fact provided with a different barcode, the QR Code. Once scanned with a smartphone, it is possible to receive information on the animal depicted.

It is a wonderful initiative made together with Home For Hope, a coalition of associations of adoption of pets which includes Save Our Street Dogs and Animal Lovers League. The cardboard creation process is documented in a beautiful video:

"IKEA offers ideas and solutions for homes, but sometimes it takes more than a nice piece of furniture to complete the house. We hope that this unique initiative aimed at our customers touches their heartstrings and encourages them to adopt a pet, illuminating the lives of these dogs ", explains Caroline Ng, Marketing Manager at IKEA Singapore.

In short, shoppers can become potential adopters, struck by the images of dogs in the house and their stories. And the program has been successful so far: the animals of the Tempe store's 6 hardboards they have all been adopted. An easy idea to realize that we hope will be replicated.
