    Seven men were arrested in Brazil, all poachers who enjoyed hunting illegally protected and endangered animals such as jaguars, deer and more. One of them, in particular, is a dentist who has allegedly killed more than a thousand jaguars since 1987.

    It is Temistocles Barbosa Freire, known for his shooting with hunting trophies. The band of poachers was arrested thanks to wiretapping, for some time the police had been keeping an eye on these people.

    Their movements were monitored for three months before the arrest. The men are accused of illegal hunting and use of firearms without authorization. The Brazilian Federal Court has made known their names: Doria de Lucena Junior worker, Sinezio Adriano de Oliveira farmer, Gilvan Souza Nunes prison officer, Gisleno José Oliveira de Araujo Sa electrician, Manoel Alves de Oliveira and Sebastiao Junior de Oliveira Costa, Reginaldo Ribeiro da Silva and Gersildo dos Santos Araujo.

    For the past three months, poachers have killed 8 jaguars, 13 capybaras, 10 collared peccaries and two deer. The animals would have been attracted with the sound of the cuica, a Brazilian drum that also recalls the jaguars that we remember that in Latin America are a protected species.
