Un domestic dog seems to have turned out positively positive for Sars-NCov-19 . This would be the first case of infection detected on a dog, but the result of the test has yet to be confirmed.

After being taken from the home, the dog was swabbed by collecting samples from the animal's nose, ears and mouth. Samples from the nasal and oral cavities were weakly positive but the dog did not show any relevant symptoms.

AFCD itself pointed out that it could be an environmental contamination. The owner was in fact infected and probably stroked and interacted with the animal: the dog may have tested positive for this reason alone.

The AFCD has indeed clarified and reiterated that at the moment there is no scientific evidence to support that pets can be infected with the virus, much less that they can be a source of infection for people.

Il dog he was transferred to an animal care facility where he is in solitary confinement for the quarantine. The animal is healthy, but is monitored and will be swabbed again to confirm or rule out infection. If the tests fail, the dog will be returned to his family.
