Cecil: no consequences for Walter Palmer, the man who killed the lion symbol of Zimbabwe

Walter Palmer admitted killing Cecil, the symbolic lion of Zimbabwe, but he always denied acting illegally. The man, a US dentist, will not be prosecuted because he had obtained a legal permit for hunting.

Walter Palmer admitted killing Cecil, the lion symbol of Zimbabwe, but he has always denied having acted illegally. The man, a US dentist, will not be prosecuted because he had obtained a legal permit for hunting.

This is what Zimbabwean officials said. Despite the protests that have arisen internationally after the death of Cecil - a blameless creature - his killer at least for the moment it will not suffer any consequences for that cruel and senseless gesture.

Environment Minister of Zimbabwe has explained that Walter Palmer cannot be blamed because all documents are in order. It would therefore be time to review the methods of issuing hunting licenses in this country.

Initially, the Environment Minister requested Walter Palmer's extradition so that he could be tried in Zimbabwe. However, it now appears that man has not broken any law.

In the meantime, the trial that sees the accused continues Theo Bronkhurst, the guide who accompanied Palmer during the hunting trip that led to Cecil's killing. Bronkhurst has been accused of failing to prevent an illegal hunting action, but denies everything about it.

Already at the end of August Palmer returned to work in his dental practice in the United States. It seems that the man has paid 50 thousand dollars to be able to participate in the lion hunt inside the largest reserve in Zimbabwe.

Palmer reminded the press that if he had known of the importance of the Cecil lion to Zimbabwe, he would not have killed him. The man said that no one in his hunting party knew the name of that lion. The fact remains that an animal was brutally and unjustly killed just to get a hunting trophy and that, at this rate, unfortunately no one will pay any consequences for their actions.
