Without this help, in fact, Buttercup would have been forced to limp for life, causing her severe discomfort and immobility. Today, however, she is able to walk like any other duck, thanks to the love of some researchers who saved her, just as happened to the two geese saved by a brass prosthesis in place of their beak.
Initially subjected to rehabilitation therapy, the paw was only partially corrected. After intensive sessions, the limb had only come halfway, making Buttercup still difficult to walk. But then came the 3D printed cure and her "dad" Mike Garey, along with Dr. Shannon McGee, designed a suitable paw, printed by the Novacopy company.
That's how Buttercup got it walking normally for the first time. Sure, it took surgery to remove the diseased paw and leave it with a kind of wooden leg to put the prosthesis on, but it was worth it. The duck has already made incredible progress, as evidenced by the video that immortalizes his first steps with the prosthesis:
