President Jair Bolsonaro is about to sign today, with a ceremony at Palazzo Planalto, law 1095/19, which increases the penalties for those who mistreat dogs and cats. The first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, was one of the biggest promoters of the proposal, approved on September 9 in the Senate.
Trump also recently signed a law that increased penalties for pet abuse, meeting popular will.

In Brazil, currently, those who abuse animals are included in art. 32 of the Law on environmental crimes (9.605 / 98), with a prison sentence ranging from three months to one year of imprisonment and a fine.
With the new law, signed by Federal Deputy Fred Costa, however, the penalty goes to imprisonment from two to five years, as well as a fine and a ban for those who have abused to keep animals.
