The entry into force of the test ban was scheduled for January 1, 2021 but will postpone for another twelve months

This ban, already postponed in previous years, did not even take effect for 2021 and its entry into force was extended for another twelve months.
LAV, the antivivisection league, has announced that it will fight to obtain the cancellation of the extension:
"In the process of converting into law in Parliament we will submit amendments to cancel the extension, because this decision has no solid scientific basis", writes LAV in a note.
Last August the Senate Commission and the Ministry of Health had rejected the proposal of Senator Cattaneo with which they asked for an extension of the ban, therefore theentry into force of the ban it seemed now certain. The certainty began to waver on Christmas Eve with the advances on the text of the "Milleproroghe" Decree-law and it finally fell on December 31, with the publication in the Official Gazette of the Decree, which postponed the entry into force of the ban on animal testing for substances of abuse.
This despite the fact that alternative and substitute methods to animal experimentation have been used for some time also for alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
The animals will therefore be forced to suffer for at least another year unnecessary and harmful tests, with which they will be subjected to inhale alcohol vapors or breathe the equivalent of 266 cigarettes a day to then be killed and dissected to assess the long-known impacts of alcohol and tobacco.
