He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

A land turtle was painted by elementary school children during an environmental protection process. A paradoxical story that comes from Virginia: the teachers, instead of teaching the little ones to respect animals, encouraged them to take brushes and color the carapace.

The images released by the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke who has now taken the turtle into custody for rehabilitation after the paint damage are sobering. Children are known to have no fault. The school, however, is an educational agency and perplexes the fact that in a process of environmental protection, teachers encourage children to paint an animal as if it were not a living being.

This turtle, as reported by the recovery center that saved it, has suffered serious damage. Removing the paint will cause lung problems, as these animals use the shell to absorb sunlight which aids their metabolism. But not only. The turtle was effectively deprived of the freedom. In the center, it will have to remain there for a long time before returning to nature.

“We know that the children had no intention of harming the turtle and were simply having fun, but that is why environmental education is so important from a young age to teach respect for living things. This action may seem innocent to children (and perhaps even some adults) but it is very harmful to the turtle, ”writes the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke.

It must also be said that this species of turtle, the Terrapene carolina carolina, in Virginia is rapidly decreasing and acts like this put their survival at risk.

“We don't want to project our personal emotions onto wild animals, as we can't really know what they think and feel, but this was most likely a very stressful experience for this turtle. We will put you at ease with you and try to speed up the removal process as safely as possible, but all of this could have been avoided ”.
