A young beech marten saved in a Novara wood. She had been trapped in a trap placed by poachers

In the woods of Briona, a young faina has been rescued caught by a tagliola placed by poachers

The woods of Briona, in the province of Novara, are full of dangers for wild animals. In recent days, traps, baits and torture tools used by poachers have been discovered. And a young beech marten was found trapped in a trap as she struggled to escape. Fortunately, some passersby immediately alerted the Miletta Refuge, which has been involved in animal protection for years, and the small mammal was released.

The animal was still alive and struggling to escape. - tell the volunteers of the shelter - Arrived on the spot, there were some people waiting for us who immediately accompanied us to the trap. The stone marten had his left front limb stuck in the trap and showed signs of severe suffering and stress. With a great deal of effort, two of those present opened the trap while we were holding the animal.

A piece of lard was also found near the trap, probably used as a bait. Thus, the activists went in search of other tools used for poaching wildlife and in the surroundings they discovered two laces, well anchored to a wooden post and positioned near a fence.

Following the discovery of these instruments of torture, the Miletta Refuge immediately filed a complaint against unknown persons to the Carabinieri Forestali of Novara in the hope that they will be able to identify the culprits.

I will never be able to forget that questioning look, those eyes overwhelmed by suffering and that mute pain. - Alessandra Motta, President of the Miletta Refuge. - A mind capable of arming an instrument of torture such as that trap is a mind capable of hatching any evil and is therefore a socially dangerous individual.

We remind you that leghold traps are illegal, as well as being dangerous for humans and in particular for children, who risk accidentally tripping over them. Furthermore, it is really absurd that wild animals cannot feel safe even at their "home".
