Dogs left behind on an abandoned meat farm have finally been released from their cages, but they will need a lot of help coping with what they have experienced and seen

In South Korea, 50 dogs were rescued in extremis. The animals were locked up, in terrible conditions, in a farm in Yongin, a city close to the capital Seoul. After the closure of the illegal facility where dog meat was produced for human consumption, their fate was to cull them. But fortunately the volunteers of the organization Humane society international (HSI) arrived on time, following a report.

When the activists entered the kennel, a distressing scene presented itself to them: the 50 dogs were visibly undernourished and afraid and they had neither food nor water available. In addition, they were suffering from skin diseases and untreated wounds.

“These dogs really needed our help as they would have been put down by the authorities without a rescue plan. We knew we had to act quickly to save them ”- said Nara Kim, head of the Korean section of Humane Society International. - “These dogs were in a sorry state, thin and scared and lived in terrible conditions. It was also shocking to see the slaughterhouse area with abandoned equipment and knives. I am horrified at how many dogs lost their lives there. Only by stopping the dog meat industry will it be possible to see the end of such pitiful scenes of animal suffering animals “.

After the veterinary care they need, the 50 dogs will be taken to the shelters of the Humane Society International United States and Canada waiting to be adopted by some families.

Unfortunately, the Yongin kennel is only one of several dog lagers where they are raised for their meat, which is widely consumed in various parts of South Korea but also in neighboring countries. It is estimated that they are approx 2 million dogs kept in thousands of Korean farms and destined for slaughter. So far the animal welfare organization Humane Society International has managed to close 17, but the road is still long. The HSI is pushing for legislation banning the dog meat trade, the only possible way to end this horror.
