Wrinkle creams: the best and worst brands according to Altroconsumo

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

After a certain age, to try to limit the signs of aging, many people start using anti-wrinkle creams. But do these cosmetics really work? And which are the best on the market? He tried to answer an Altroconsumo test.

They are popular on the shelves of supermarkets, pharmacies, herbalists, etc. wrinkle creams and serums that promise to be effective in counteracting skin aging. In some cases, these are also very expensive products. But are they really worth buying?

Altroconsumo magazine compared 12 products, drawing up a ranking based on effectiveness and value for money.

More specifically, the products were evaluated on the basis of their moisturizing and anti-wrinkle efficacy (tested in the laboratory) and on the basis of the experience of use of a group of consumers. The labels were also checked to make sure they were correct.

On the other hand, there is no mention of an Inci evaluation, that is the list of ingredients of which the creams are made to identify the possible presence of substances potentially harmful to health and the environment.

The results

The magazine's experts specify that no product is able to erase wrinkles but that face creams are useful for improving and moisturizing the skin and this, in the long term, has an anti-wrinkle effect, in the sense that it can delay their appearance by improving the skin. appearance of our skin.

Having said that, anti-wrinkle creams have in their composition specific active ingredients with antioxidant power and which counteract skin aging. Among the most used ingredients are:

  • hyaluronic acid
  • retinol
  • Vitamin E
  • coenzyme Q10

However, Altroconsumo writes that:

There is little or no scientific evidence on their effectiveness in reducing wrinkles through the superficial application of creams. Furthermore, often their use in creams occurs in very scarce quantities: it can be verified by observing the list of ingredients on the label which shows the list of substances used in descending order according to the concentration, this means that the most present ingredients will be found. at the top of the list.

The test also invites you to be wary of the price which, like other product features, in some cases can be a marketing choice that allows you to place a certain product in one range rather than another.

In fact, the test sees two expensive creams in first and last position.

La better cream than the test and the Clarins Multi-Active Jour good quality (65 points), followed by the best buy: the cream Garnier Organic (63 points).

The ranking follows:

  • Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Anti-aging (medium quality, 54)
  • L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Extra-Firming Anti-Wrinkle Day Care (Low Quality, 49)
  • Nivea Q10 power anti-wrinkle (low quality, 45)
  • Biotherm blue therapy accelerated (low quality, 44)
  • Avène physiolift day smoothing emulsion (low quality, 44)
  • Vichy Liftactiv collagen specialist (low quality, 43)
  • Olaz regenerist advanced anti-aging formula (low quality, 42)

  • Weleda Rosehip Smoothing Day Care (Low Quality, 35)
  • Causalie premier cru La crema (low quality, 32).

A similar test was also conducted in France by the magazine 60 millions de consommateur. In this case, however, much more weight was given to Inci than creams but the same conclusion was reached in terms of effectiveness: the real effects on wrinkles of these creams are not exactly miraculous.
