After donating his rare blood to 88 dogs and saving their lives, Greyhound Woodie retires (well deserved)

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

For six years he donated his blood to help other dogs survive, but now the mission of Woodie, a generous Greyhound breed, is finished. Thanks to his rare blood type (owned by less than 30% of dogs but which can be received by specimens of any breed) Woodie saved the life of 88 dogs, undergoing a total of 22 donations. A few days ago, however, the time has come for the adorable 9-year-old greyhound to "retire", a well-deserved retirement.

Woodie lives in Leicestershire, UK and first donated his blood when he was 3 years old.

Knowing that he has helped families in distressing situations is incredible - comments his owner Wendy Gray. Woodie has always donated her blood without resisting and showing great calm and patience. He lies motionless on the table until it's all over and gets up. He loves it. After him it has absolutely no negative effects and after he is ready for a long walk. - says Wendy Gray - I'm so proud of him. He takes everything calmly.

An exceptional blood donor

Ms. Gray explained that she found out about pet blood donations thanks to some flyers found in vets when she brought her first dog, Rio, for visits.

I love that we can do it - explains Wendy - People do it for humans, why not dogs for dogs?

According to Pet Blood Bank Uk, Loughborough charity that called the greyhound a "superstar", each transfusion could reach up to 450 milliliters: this means that in six years Woodie has donated over 10 liters to his four-legged friends.

The moment Nika met Woody ?

9-year-old spaniel Nika's life was saved because a blood transfusion. That donation came from 8-year-old greyhound Woody who has donated over 22 times and saved 88 other dogs who needed urgent transfusions. @PetBloodBank #StephsPackedLunch pic.twitter.com/F4HIMPCKiF

Woodie would have gladly continued to help his fellow men, but now he can no longer donate blood as it is only taken from dogs between the ages of one and eight.

He has already done a great deal for his fellowmen. And the owners of the other dogs who survived thanks to his blood will never forget the generous gesture of the great Woodie!
