The peak of the phenomenon occurred on February 13, 2014, when the workers of the Municipality of Scansano even found one severed head of wolf or hybrid hanging on the roundabout entrance to the town, with a sign praising the extermination of predators and accusing LAV, Enpa and WWF.

La very serious situation that is occurring in Maremma, with a similar trail of serial crimes against animals, it has unfortunately not led to any charges so far. For this the LAV will write to the Chief Prosecutor of the Republic of Grosseto, soliciting an investigative action that allows to put an end to a massacre that is being carried out in an organized crime mode by unknown persons.
In addition, the association has made available the sum of € 5.000 as a reward for those who provide useful information to identify those responsible for this latest death, as well as that of the other wolves and canids killed with snares, shot and beaten since March 2013. These are punishable killings according to the article 544-bis of the Criminal Code with imprisonment of up to two years, and which can also constitute the crime of hunting theft.
"IS hard to believe that no one in the area has elements that can help identify the culprits in such a long trail of blood that has been going on for over a year ”, says Massimo Vitturi, national head of the LAV Hunting and Wildlife Sector.
