Aflatoxins in flour. The Ministry of Health recalled a batch of chestnut flour contaminated with some toxins, very dangerous for our health because they are toxic and carcinogenic.

The batch withdrawn is n ° 19298, of 400 grams with expiry date 31/10/2020.

What are aflatoxins and why are they dangerous

Aflatoxins are mycotoxins produced by two species of Aspergillus, a fungus found mainly in areas with a hot and humid climate. They are highly toxic and are among the most carcinogenic substances in existence.

As EFSA explains, given their toxicity and carcinogenic risk,

"Consumer exposure through food should be kept as low as possible". Aflatoxins can be present in food products such as peanuts, nuts, maize, rice, figs and other dried fruit, spices, raw vegetable oils and cocoa beans, following fungal contamination that occurred before and after harvesting "

Furthermore, according to the European authorities, it is possible that climate change will have an impact on the presence of aflatoxins in food in Europe.

If you bought this flour, avoid using it and bring it back for an exchange or refund.
