Having the radiators on for many hours contributes to drier the air in our apartment - this is why a humidifier can make a difference to our health.

In these particularly cold days, having the radiators turned on at home represents a comfort not just, even if it is good not to exaggerate to keep them on for too many hours - with heavy consequences on pollution and on our pockets (HERE you will find some advice on how to use the radiators without waste).

In addition to paying attention to the internal temperature of our apartment (the ideal temperature for our well-being is around 21 ° C), particular attention should also be paid to the humidity rate: the heaters on, in fact, contribute to making the air in the house very dry, with important consequences on our health. Dry skin and eyes, sore throat and breathing problems can often occur in the presence of an environment that is too dry - especially in children, the elderly and those who already suffer from conditions such as asthma.

To make the air in the house less dry and slightly increase the humidity rate, we can use the humidifier. Many underestimate the usefulness of this accessory which, on the other hand, is essential for the healthiness of the air we breathe in the house and which should be used throughout the winter season, in conjunction with turning on the radiators.

After having carefully cleaned the radiators and eliminated the dust (HERE are some tips on how to do it correctly), we hang a humidifier on an element of our radiator - there are all types, all materials and for all pockets - containing a little distilled water: this, in contact with the heat of the radiator, will evaporate making the house more humid.

However, be careful not to make the home environment too humid, because this can also have negative consequences on our health: excessive humidity levels can lead to respiratory and bone problems, especially for the elderly (the famous rheumatism). In addition, humidity can increase the presence of bacteria and mold, which can damage the walls of the house, furniture or even appliances. The right level of humidity is between 40 and 50%: we can measure it through a so-called instrument hygrometer.

Humidifiers, in addition to their function of making the air in the home healthier, can also help make it more fragrant and pleasant. We can add citrus peels, cinnamon sticks, dried aromatic herbs or even a few drops of essential oil to the water inside: the proximity to the heat emanating from the radiator will help diffuse a pleasant fragrance into the room. HERE are other tricks to perfume your home using the heat of the radiators.
