Weird shapes for fruit: a new craze in China (PHOTO)

Giving strange shapes to fruit to attract attention is a new craze that is gaining momentum in China. In our opinion, fruit is beautiful in itself, just as Mother Nature created it. Perhaps, however, giving it a particular shape could attract people's interest and encourage them to consume more of this really healthy food.

Dare shape side to the fruit to get attention, here is a new craze that is making its way into China. In our opinion, fruit is beautiful in itself, just as Mother Nature created it. Perhaps, however, giving it a particular shape could attract people's interest and encourage them to consume more of this really healthy food.

No genetic engineering is involved in the new experiment. It is in fact about growing and ripening the fruit in special molds, which will allow it to take on the strangest forms. The hope is that the fruit obtained in this way will still be sold easily and will not lead to food waste.

The idea came from the Chinese company Fruit Mould, which specializes in creating special molds for fruit of different sizes, including watermelons. Thus cube-shaped watermelons were born, instead of round ones, heart-shaped cucumbers and pears reminiscent of Buddhas.

When the fruits are still young, the farmers place them in the chosen molds. The fruit develops inside them and takes the predetermined shape. Now in China fruit with the most original shapes it is reaching the supermarkets. The company also ships its molds all over the world so that star-shaped cucumbers or Buddha-shaped pears can be grown anywhere.

Do you like the idea or do you think it is a completely useless gimmick? Certainly the initiative is very original and, as already mentioned, it could contribute to increasing the consumption of fruit, especially out of curiosity. Certainly thanks to these shapes you could decorate the dishes in a really unusual way, but is it really worth it? And, since the molds used are made of plastic, will they be really safe?
