The National Labor Inspectorate fined the Neapolitan company, in search of a receptionist, who had published a sexist advertisement

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

The National Labor Inspectorate fined the Neapolitan firm, looking for a receptionist, who had published a frighteningly sexist job advertisement

The absurd story of the company that had requested the sending of a costumed photo to the candidates interested in a job as a receptionist ended with a fine of 10.000 euros. Following the publication of the indecent and sexist announcement, which appeared a few days ago on the Recruit.net platform, the Neapolitan company Medial Service (which deals with private security and hospitality) ended up at the center of a media storm.

Removing the job offer had done little because within a few hours the screenshots of the scandalous announcement had bounced on social networks and newspapers so much that the intervention of the Minister of Labor Andrea Orlando was necessary, who immediately sent inspectors to the 'agency. Yesterday, finally, the bill to pay arrived from the National Labor Inspectorate (INL): 10.000 euros for the violation of the prohibition of discrimination in access to work.

"The director of the company has admitted the error and reformulated the text of the advertisement" hopes the Inl.

The ad in question read: “We are looking for a receptionist who speaks English fluently, demonstrable with specific certificates or references. The candidate must have a maximum age of 30, have a car, have a sunny disposition and good looks. You will be asked to send a full-length photo in a bathing suit or similar ".

Certified English speaking receptionist, € 500 per month, full time.
    They require full costumed photos.

A highly discriminatory and ridiculous request, which had nothing to do with the position of receptionist.

The sanction of the Labor Inspectorate against the company that had asked for photos in costume of candidates for a job as a receptionist seems to me an important signal for the speed and quantification of the fine - commented Chiara Marciani, councilor for labor of the Municipality of Naples. - If I work at the reception whether I am a man or a woman, I need to be welcoming, polite, able to be courteous, welcoming even if I have a few wrinkles and a few extra pounds. The presence of comments of this type tells us that there is still a lot of work to be done against certain stereotypes.

We hope that the fine is a warning to all employers in our country! Women are tired of being subjected to constant discrimination and being treated like dolls.
