Asbestos in thermos from China. The Ministry of Health has issued three new alerts. I products withdrawn they are two terms of 0,75 and 0,35 liters with plastic exterior, imported from the Galileo company and a 1,4 l thermos distributed by the Inte company. The risk assessed by the Ministry is chemical-carcinogenic.
The sampling was carried out by NAS in Treviso. After carrying out checks using scanning electron microscopy, the Regional Agency for Prevention and Environmental Protection of the Veneto Provincial Department of Verona, detected the presence of chrysotile asbestos and amphiboles.
The material containing asbestos is formed by small cylindrical bodies of whitish gray color consisting of compressed fibrous material of chrysotile asbestos, which is located “in the cavity of the double glass envelope of the thermos, with the function of spacers”.
The risk, according to the Ministry, is the release of asbestos fibers (IARC class 1 inhalation carcinogen) if the glass container is broken.
The withdrawn 0,75 l thermos is characterized by the code 2176097 and has barcode 8 029121760978.
The second product, also imported from China by the Galileo company, is the 0,35 liter thermos. Also in this case the container is made up of small cylindrical bodies made of compressed fibrous material of chrysotile asbestos located in the cavity of the double glass envelope of the thermos, with the function of spacers.
The withdrawn 0,35 l thermos is characterized by the code 2176095 and has barcode 8 029121760954.
The third thermos withdrawn is the 1,4 liter one. Also in this case, the asbestos-containing material consists of small cylindrical-shaped bodies made of compressed fibrous material of chrysotile asbestos placed in the cavity of the double glass envelope of the thermos, with the function of spacers. The risk is chemical-carcinogenic.
In all three cases, the Ministry of Health ordered the withdrawal from the market.
