Il panic unleashed by the war in Ukraine not only derives from the nuclear threat or possible Russian bombings that could also hit neighboring countries, but also concerns the dramatic increase in energy and fuel prices, as a result of the sanctions imposed on Russia.

The population of Romania literally stormed the country's petrol stations yesterday, alarmed by an exponential increase in the price of fuel and the impossibility of refueling in the near future. The extreme reaction took place after he went to a Bihor County gas station gasoline had reached the record price of 11 leu per liter (almost 2,3 euros).

It was an isolated case, however enough to trigger panic in the population who ran to refuel, clogging up petrol stations - as can be seen from the images spread on social media. Already this morning, the increases in crude oil have been more contained and the price of a liter of petrol is now around 7,5 leu. Only the distributor Mol has kept the consumer price still high (8,5 leu per liter), justifying this action with the supply problems from the Hungarian refineries.

The Romanian government has taken steps to avert the risk of unnecessary alarmism. Yesterday the Romanian Minister of Energy, Virgil-Daniel Popescu, addressed citizens to reassure them about the absence of increases in fuel prices:

I still invoke calm: do not queue at the distributors. We have enough stock, so there are NO arguments for unjustified and explosive price increases - he wrote on his Facebook page. - Let us not get involved in a hybrid war, especially in the current regional security environment. As premier Nicolae Ciuca also announced, the competent institutions will initiate extensive control actions on petrol stations because WE WILL NOT ALLOW SPECULATIONS! Let's not enter the game of those who want to destabilize Romania!

A few hours later, the minister thanked the Romanian population for the steadfastness of nerves they are showing in these hours, attaching images of refueling stations now free from traffic, and said he was confident that things have calmed down throughout the Village.

A similar situation, with the unjustified panic and the rush to supply fuel, had happened a few months ago in the United States, in the middle of the pandemic, and we had told you about it in this article.
