Madrid also bans the use of wild animals in circuses. Ban from April 2020

The bill, presented just over a year ago, has just been approved following a consultation which saw the participation of thousands of citizens.

Similar bans have also been introduced in Scotland and England, but law in Wales has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“This bill addresses the ethical concerns of people across Wales by banning the use of wild animals in traveling circuses. The use of wild animals for entertainment is outdated. Wild animals are sentient beings with complex needs and should not be viewed as products for our entertainment, ”said Lesley Griffiths, Minister of the Environment.

The rule is now expected to go into effect on December 1, having overcome its latest legislative hurdle.

“We will never again see lions and tigers pulled around the country in trucks, elephants forced to live in chains and wild animals beaten in the name of entertainment. Today the curtain closes definitively on more than a century of suffering in Great Britain ”, concludes Jan Creamer, President of Animal Defenders International.
