Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

The coronavirus has brought with it a different way to "travel", even if only through a monitor, to visit museums and exhibitions, to attend concerts and theatrical performances. It is not the same thing, of course, but the world of art and culture cannot and must not stop, in the successful attempt to keep our passion for beauty alive and waiting for everything to return as before.

After “Faces of Frida” , the virtual gallery dedicated exclusively to Frida Kahlo which gives the visitor the opportunity to take a complete journey into the life and works of Frida, Google Arts & Culture has also opened the doors of La Casa Azul, the Frida Kahlo museum in Mexico, for an exclusive guided tour to be experienced directly from the sofa home.

Frida Kahlo: the virtual gallery dedicated to the Mexican artist is born

And so, these days, the Coyoacán neighborhood of Mexico City opens the gates to its most famous home. It is the mythical Casa Azul, the one in which Frida Khalo was born and died, and obviously closed to the public due to the pandemic.

During this period of seclusion, the 13 exhibition halls and adjoining courtyards can only be reached with a click.

La Casa Azul

At 247 de la Calle de Londres in the center of Coyoacán, La Casa Azul (The Blue House) is a beautiful villa, with its facade painted in a vibrant blue in the Mexican tradition. It is the former home of Frida Kahlo, who lived there for most of her life. It was the family home purchased by her father in 1904 and later expanded by Diego Rivera. On August 6, 1907, the artist was born in the house, and it was here that she died 47 years later. Entering Casa Azul, Frida's spirit can be breathed everywhere. Her clothes are carefully arranged in her atelier, and in the kitchen that once welcomed the couple's friends, including their famous neighbor, Trotsky, a series of playful ceramics.

The gardens are dotted with cacti and other tropical plants surrounding the hordes of pre-Columbian figurines. In the bedroom, a face-shaped urn lies on the bed, holding his ashes. Next to it is the mirror in which Frida, forced to bed, observed herself to paint her famous self-portraits, such as I due Frida and Frida y la cesárea, now exhibited in the villa. Her daily life is shown through dresses, corsets, jewelry, makeup and personal items that have been meticulously preserved. It is a moving visit and a privileged glimpse into the life of one of the greatest artists of the XNUMXth century.

HERE the virtual visit is available.
