California officially becomes the first US state to ban the fur trade, thus becoming fur free. So goodbye to horror farms.

Furs outlawed, now it's official. The Wildlife Protection Act of 2019 was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday and effectively prohibits the trapping and rearing of animals destined to become fur for commercial purposes. Good news for foxes, ferrets, visions and so on of which we often see heartbreaking images. Locked up in small cages, in the dark and with robotic behaviors, these animals are exhausted to their death.

But California finally says enough."A cruel practice, of course, and furs are useless and expensive," explains the deputy Lorena Gonzalez, first signatory of the bill that says goodbye to trapping and breeding.

Although the commercial fur market has depopulated for years, in recent years the trend has dropped. According to Gonzales, the demand has decreased and even the breeders do not make it to the end of the month. The furs don't like them anymore and fortunately for wild animals, victims of a useless trade. The next step will be to ban the sale of accessories and clothes made from animal fur.

“There has been a real change in attitude towards animals,” continues Gonzalez.

On the other hand, the horrors of farms are there for all to see, hundreds of animals strangled, hit or beaten to death, with a single attention, that of the fur to be skinned.

For the past two decades, animal rights activists have lobbied institutions and ranchers.

“The signing of this law is the result of a change of opinion and a greater awareness of animal cruelty,” says Judie Mancuso, founder and president of Social Compassion in Legislis.
