At first glance it seemed too great to be true, but now the completion date for the world's first vertical forest approaches. Located in Milan, it is called Vertical Forest and it is the response of the Boeri architecture firm to the need to make cities greener, while supporting an increasingly dense urban population.

This project planned for Expo 2015 to redevelop a district in the center of Milan has been talked about for years and already the first renderings of the skyscraper immediately captured the imagination of many people around the world, all eager to understand what it would be like. realized and how many benefits it would bring. In these days Barreca and Lavarra, the architectural firm that supervises the work that is almost finished, offers us an update and some photos of the progress made to date.

Le new images they begin to show the appearance of the residential towers once finished, now that most of the scaffolding has been dismantled. Trees and plants of 100 different species have also been arranged, surrounding the entire external cladding with greenery.

Each building, in fact, houses a green area equal to 10.000 square meters of forest. This includes 480 large and medium sized trees, 250 small trees, 11.000 plants and 5.000 shrubs. They will create a microclimate, capable of breaking down CO2 and fine dust, producing humidity and oxygen, reducing noise pollution and wind.

A photovoltaic (500 mXNUMX of panels), wind and geothermal energy system will then guarantee the self-sufficiency of the two towers, while the irrigation of the plants will take place largely through a centralized gray water filtration system.

Here, then, you can for the first time begin to imagine relaxing on top of the city, caressed by the light that filters through the leaves, breathing fresh air. Completion is scheduled for late spring / early summer. Obviously this is not only the solution to the lack of urban green areas, but it is certainly an idea that is envying us all over the world.
