Do you want to lose weight? Following a vegetarian diet could be the best solution not only in terms of sustainability but also to more easily obtain the desired result. A new study has in fact shown how this diet, compared to the classic ones and with the same calories, does lose weight twice more.
To arrive at this conclusion was a research conducted by a team of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine that took as a sample 74 patients with type 2 diabetes. One group followed a vegetarian diet that included vegetables, cereals, fruit and nuts with the use of products of animal origin limited to a maximum of one portion of low-fat yogurt per day; a second group followed the classic low-calorie diet suitable for diabetic patients but which included all types of food. Both groups had an equal caloric amount.
It was seen after 6 months that vegetarians had lost 6,2 kilograms while those who belonged toother group only 3,2 kilograms. Both diets, therefore, had proved effective in promoting weight loss but the vegetarian one had allowed to obtain double results in terms of weight loss. But there's more: thanks to magnetic resonance imaging, scientists were able to notice that, with a predominantly plant-based diet, people had especially decreased fat mass.
So he commented Hana Kahleova ', lead author of the study:
“The vegetarian diet has been shown not only to help you lose weight but also to be more effective at reducing fat mass and improving metabolism. This finding is significant for people trying to lose weight, including those with metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes. the result is also relevant for people who want to keep their weight under control staying healthy and thin ".

In reality, it is not the first time that a study confirms the potential of the vegetarian diet for weight loss. Also the experts of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine last year had published a review of 15 studies conducted across Europe and the United States, arriving at the same conclusion: the vegetarian diet allows you to lose weight more easily with an average weight loss of 10 kilos in 44 weeks.
