The first will be inaugurated on Saturday 4 September Vegetable Cathedral which will rise to Over the Hill, a locality in the Bergamo area, at the foot of the Mount Arera, at 1345 meters above sea level. It is a work of art, a real green sanctuary that can boast 5 naves and 42 columns made with ben 1800 fir poles, 600 chestnut branches and 6 thousand meters of hazelnut branches held together by weaving flexible wood, pegs, nails and ropes.

The project, inspired by the principles of Land Art takes up the work that the artist Giuliano Mauri, who passed away last year, showed up in 2001 inside Sella Art and was completed in these days two years after the start of the works to celebrate theInternational Year of Biodiversity.

Wanted by Bergamasque Orobie Park, together with Municipalities of Oltre il Colle, Roncobello and Ardesio and with the participation of Environmental Ethics Center of Bergamo, the structure rises, surrounded by trees, in the center of a silent clearing and extends for 650 square meters of surface. Long 28,5 and 24 meters wide, the Vegetal Cathedral has a height that varies from 5 to 21 meters destined to increase, with the plants that will grow, by about 50 centimeters per year.

“The idea was born a few years ago when I was manager of the parks service of the Lombardy Region - he says Franco rossi, Chairman of the Bergamasque Orobie Park - In parks, the idea of use for humans has always been linked to something that changed the environment: hotels, paths, ski lifts; now we wanted to propose something significant that respected nature 100%".

But the new sanctuary that will gradually take on the shape of a green Gothic cathedral will not be used as a place of worship but, taking advantage of its open structure that can be walked in every direction, is intended to host cultural events, concerts, folkloristic events, as well as becoming a resting place for training moments and as a starting point and arrival point for the paths and trails of the Park.
