How to incentivize the collection of used oils? The Municipality of Casal Velino has launched an initiative that will allow citizens to receive local extra virgin olive oil as a gift in exchange for the frying oil to be delivered to the ecological island. At the center of the initiative, we find the Calabrian extra virgin olive oil DOP produced in the territory of the city.
How to encourage the collection of used oils? The Municipality of Casal Velino has launched an initiative that will allow citizens to receive local extra virgin olive oil as a gift in exchange for the frying oil to be delivered to the ecological island. At the heart of the initiative, we find theDOP Campania extra virgin olive oil produced in the territory of the city.
The experimental project is called "The oil on the island" and aims at a greater involvement of citizens in respect of the environment and in collection. The initiative got underway thanks to a resolution of the municipal council of Casal Velino. The campaign for the incentive collection of used oil will last from April 2014 to April 2015.
Citizens will have to collect the oil already used in the kitchen in special containers made available by the Pro Loco and by the Municipality on loan for use. They will therefore have to take it to theEcological island in Location Ieschi. However, there will be quantities to be respected in order to receive PDO extra virgin olive oil in exchange, both for citizens and for commercial activities.
As regards the citizens:
- 1 liter of extra virgin olive oil produced in the Casal Velino area free of charge for each 20 liters of waste oil delivered.
- ½ liter of extra virgin olive oil free for each 10 liters of waste oil delivered.
for business:
- 1 liter of extra virgin olive oil free for each 30 liters of waste oil delivered.
To get the prize they cannot be added together quantities of used oil delivered at different times. The oil must be delivered to the Casal Velino Ecological Island, which is open to reception from 8 to 13 of every working day.
We remind you that, to avoid problems of pollution of water resources, used oil must never be thrown down the kitchen drains, but must be delivered to ecological islands or collection points in your city. You will be able to find more information about it at your municipality. In some cities, such as a Palermo, the collection of the frying oil takes place door to door.
Used oil represents one still valid resource. Its correct collection allows its reuse for the combined production of electricity and heat. There are also those who have thought of using used frying oil for power the planes. Other possible reuses of used oil concern the creation of a greener asphalt and the realization of the laundry soap.
Before you get rid of the frying oil incorrectly, do not forget to take into account what to pour 1 liter of oil in a mirror of water leads to the formation of a polluting film as big as a football field, which dangerously reduces oxygenation and yields not drinkable 1 million liters of water, which correspond to the consumption of a single person in about 14 years.
