The most well-known brands of urban street clothing and accessories are starting to wink at the environment by joining projects to safeguard the planet and offering increasingly eco-friendly garments

Carhartt, for example, has created a series of Boardshorts in collaboration with the European headquarters in Biarritz of the Surfrider Foundation Europe, an environmental non-profit organization that for 25 years has been dedicated to defending, saving and improving the main surfing areas of the world. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the brand's new series of shorts will go to support the European association. The line features several basic design variants for men and women, featuring the Surfrider Foundation logo.
Etnies has instead announced the launch of the line Seed Project which includes technical clothing for the skateboard, surf, snowboard, BMX and finally motocross, all made with biological fabrics like hemp, bamboo, organic cotton, vegetable dyes e recycled packaging products from implants a solar power.
The sales of the new eco-line will increase the funds of the project.1% For The Planet (program in which 1% of the sales of the series will be donated to environmental causes) which Burton has also joined by launching its Green Mountain Project line.
Jackets, boots and even snowboards all produced with strictly recycled materials (from fabrics to accessories such as hinges to recycled steel for FSC certified wood planks free of PVC) and with technologies of environmentally friendly waterproofing or with DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coatings PFOA-free, (PFOA is a possibly carcinogenic chemical commonly used in waterproof membranes, which some companies are starting to phase out.) Quoting The New York Times "Burton paves the way for the snowboard industry as a whole to move to greener pastures."
To finish with the Volcom-Logical-Series, which he uses for his garments 100% certified organic cotton, hemp, vegetable dyes, manufactured using methods of low environmental impact production. The eco-garments from the Volcom-Logical Series represent Volcom's socially responsible attempt to support and protect our planet which is witnessing a rapid decline in its natural resources.
Any way to do it? Simple, reduce carbon dioxide emissions for example by leaving the car at home every now and then and putting your skate on your feet!
